Resume Format for Freshers: How to Write a CV for Your First Job

11 October 2026 · Career · 3 min read

Recruiters hiring for entry-level jobs often go through a large pile of CVs for one opening. They decide in a minute or less whether to call you. As a fresher you do not need a long CV. You need a clear one that shows who you are, how to reach you, and why you can do the job.

What a fresher CV should include

Keep it to one page. Use these sections, in this order:

  1. Name and contact details. Full name, mobile number, email address and the area you live in (for example “Laxmi Nagar, East Delhi”). Employers hiring locally want to know how far you are from the office. You do not need your full home address, date of birth or father’s name.
  2. Career objective (two lines). Say what job you want and what you bring. Example: “Commerce graduate looking for an accounts assistant role in South Delhi. Comfortable with Tally, GST invoices and Excel.”
  3. Education. Latest first: degree or diploma, college, year and marks or CGPA. Then 12th and 10th with board, year and percentage.
  4. Skills. Only skills you can show in an interview: software (Tally, Excel, MS Word), languages you speak, typing speed, a driving licence for a two-wheeler or car if the job needs one.
  5. Projects, internships or part-time work. Anything real counts: a college project, a summer internship, helping in a family shop, tuition classes you took. Write one line on what you did and what came of it.
  6. Certificates. Short courses that match the job, such as a Tally course, a digital marketing course or a computer course (CCC, DCA).

A layout you can copy

Use one column, a plain font like Arial or Calibri at size 10 to 12, and bold headings. Leave some white space between sections. Save and send it as a PDF named with your name, for example Priya-Sharma-CV.pdf, so it opens the same on every phone and computer.

Here is the order on the page:

  • Name (larger and bold), then mobile, email and area on one line
  • Career objective
  • Education
  • Skills
  • Projects and internships
  • Certificates
  • Languages: for example “Hindi (fluent), English (good)”

Write for the job you are applying to

Read the job post before you send your CV. If an accounts job asks for Tally and GST, put those skills near the top. If a telecalling job asks for good Hindi and basic English, say how well you speak both. A small change for each job makes a big difference, because recruiters look for the words in their own job post.

Mistakes that get fresher CVs rejected

  • Spelling and grammar errors. Read it aloud, or ask a friend to check it.
  • A wrong or switched-off phone number. Recruiters often call once. Keep your phone on and answer unknown numbers while you are job hunting.
  • Skills you cannot back up. If you write “Advanced Excel”, expect to be asked about it.
  • Photos, fancy colours and tables. They do not help, and some software cannot read them.
  • Two or three pages. For a first job, one page is enough.
  • An email address like coolboy123. Make a simple one with your name.

Your profile on Urgent Hiring
